Did I Make the Right Decision?

Coming from a family of doctors, engineers, professionals at high posts, entrepreneurs with their start-ups and global businesses, I am often asked the question, “Why teacher?” “You could’ve been sitting in an air-conditioned office at a high post directing others and becoming richer. I just smile at them and say, “Of course, I can. But then, will I be able to sleep with a smile on my face?”

I can easily work in the corporate industry, helping my clients get richer and getting richer myself. I chose not to because that is not what my definition of rich is. Yes, I am a teacher. And, I am proud to be one. I teach, I motivate, I help, I inspire. At the end of the academic year, when students hug you and cry and say that they don’t want to leave you, I become richer. When students say that all my teachers are amazing, but you are “the special one”, I get richer. When the parent of a student says, you made a difference in my child’s life, I get richer. When I see the most timid child in my class, turn into a confident young child, I get richer. Every day spent with students, every little note, that says “I love you Ma’am”, every smile, every hug, every wiped tear, makes me richer by the moment.

I AM THE RICHEST PERSON IN THE ROOM! I AM A TEACHER!

And YES, I MADE THE RIGHT AND THE BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!

    So true..,
Teachers are called many things: educators, mentors, instructors, and sometimes the accidental mom. No matter what they are called, we can all agree that they truly have a gift of influencing lives both inside and outside of their classroom.
    Amazing write-up! Loved it

    Very Nice Nidhi.

Proud of you and all those who became a Teacher by choice and not by compulsions.

To be that selfless person seeking to help a child grow up .. is a thankless, invaluable job.
